Coach Zimmerman Returns for New Look Roughriders in 2019

In a statement made today by West Virginia Roughriders owner and General Manager Gregg Fornario, the Roughriders will welcome back third year Head Coach and 2017 APF Coach of the Year, Mook Zimmerman for the 2019 season in Wheeling, West Virginia. "Coach Mook and myself are going on our third season together and I truly believe in his vision and execution of the x's and o's as he believes in my passion and will to win", Fornario Stated, "that winning combo is hard to beat and we wouldn't want it any other way."

Coach Zimmerman led the Richmond Roughriders in just their first season to the 2017 APF Championship game where they defeated the Florida Tarpons at home in the Richmond Coliseum. Last year in his second year at the helm of the Champion Roughriders, Coach Zimmerman would do it again, taking the Roughriders this time to the 2018 AAL Championship game against the Atlanta Havoc football team, where they would end up on the short end of the stick (58-50) in a very well fought game in front of the home fans at the Richmond Coliseum. Coach Zimmerman will now set forth on his third season looking to pick up where he left off, "Im excited to be the Head Coach of the West Virginia Roughriders and I am looking forward to establishing a winning culture in Wheeling and continuing the Roughrider tradition.", stated Zimmerman, "I very much look forward to showing the folks in the Ohio River Valley what our team can do, as we hope to represent them well in 2019."

Coach Zimmerman will play duel roles in the upcoming 2019 season, as he will also be the West Virginia Roughriders Defensive Coordinator as he was with the Roughriders in his first season in 2017. This is not something that coach Zimmerman thinks will be a challenge though, as he is very excited about the opportunity and the organizational symmetry that it creates, "When a Head Coach can get an opportunity to not only manage the team as a whole, but use his specific knowledge of a position or defense to more streamline communication from the top to the bottom, that can be a game changer", Zimmerman stated, "I am excited to get our guys ready to play Roughrider football come March."
