The West Virginia Roughriders have signed running back/wide receiver Noel Devine for the 2019 season, the team announced on Thursday October 19th, 2018.
Devine, a former Heisman finalist and standout running back at West Virginia University is now set to join the West Virginia Roughriders in their quest to win their second championship in just their first year in their new home at the West Banco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia. Noel played all four years of his collegiate career with the West Virginia Mountaineers eclipsing 5,000 career rushing yards to become the fourth player in Big East history to rush for over 4,000 career yards joining fellow Mountaineers Avon Cobourne, Pat White and Rutgers' Ray Rice. Devine also holds the record for the West Virginia Mountaineers longest run in a FBS Bowl game with a 65 yard scamper in the 2008 Fiesta Bowl, the longest run by a West Virginia player in the school's NCAA bowl history.
Since playing for the Mountaineers, Devine was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011, spent some time with the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League and with the CFL (Canadian Football League) with teams such as The Montreal Alouettes and the Edmonton Eskimos. Divine is excited to return to West Virginia, a place where it all began for him. "I'm excited to be back in West Virginia", said Devine, "Ready to play once again, in front of the greatest fans in the world".
West Virginia Roughriders Owner/GM Gregg Fornario is just getting started as he prepares for the 2019 season, as he himself is also excited to see what newly added Devine can bring to the table, "The first thing I can say is that he is extremely talented", said Fornario, "Being a fan favorite at WVU, he now gets to play once again in front of the Mountaineer Fans. His speed will definitely shine through in this fast paced game."
