The West Virginia Roughriders have signed former Baylor Bears Heisman Trophy candidate running back/wide receiver Lache Seastrunk for the 2019 season, the team announced on Wednesday, January 30th, 2019.
The Roughriders have done it again, as they have managed to secure their second former Heisman candidate for the 2019 season as they announce the signing of Lache Seastrunk, who will now plan to join the team once camp begins in early March. Regarded as a five-star prospect coming out of high school with 4,125 yards and 52 touchdowns, Seastrunk was looked upon as a top 3 running back of all high school athletes in 2010. Seastrunk would begin his college football career as a freshman at the University of Oregon in 2011 before moving onto Baylor University in 2012, running for 1,012 yards on 131 carries, averaging 138 yards per game on his way to becoming one of the few selected Heisman candidates for the 2012 college football season.
Forgoing his senior year with the Baylor Bears to enter the 2014 NFL Draft, Lache Seastrunk would get selected by the 186th overall by the Washington Redskins. Following his time with the Redskins, Lache would go onto play for other NFL teams such as the Carolina Panthers, Tennessee Titans, and Dallas Cowboys. After his time in the National Football League, Seastrunk would go onto play in the CFL (Canadian Football League) playing stints with both the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Calgary Stampeders. Seastrunk would briefly make his way back to the NFL, playing for the New York Jets in 2016. Most Recently, Seastrunk ventured back to the Canadian Football League (CFL) to play for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2017 before signing with the West Virginia Roughriders for the 2019 season to play at the WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia.
